The Autism Camp Sunshine Coast program runs over 4 days and 5 nights. It is a beach-side location. The program taps into existing regional group recreation/camp facilities with safety, privacy, autonomy and low sensory input as priorities. In the Sunshine Coast we partner with QLD Recreation, Sports and Arts facilities in Currumundi whose facilities include:
12 air conditioned rooms (some single room, some adjoining twin depending on size of family) with ensuite, in their own private precinct;
a brand new purpose-built self-catering communal kitchen; and access to a range of onsite outdoor and adventure activities and facilities.
We add to these recreation facilities:
an Autism Camp Australia (ACA) proprioceptive sensory space; and
an ACA workshop space.
All activities, apart from Body Boarding, take place at the Autism Camp Sunshine Coast location in Currumundi. The site has direct gated access to Currimundi’s beautiful beach and lake.

Our Team
Camp Leader (on call 24/7 for the duration of your stay)
Sibling Leader (7.30am-5:30pm every day)
Lead Carers x 2 (7.30am-5:30pm every day)
Carers (8am-5pm every day)
All our Carers are qualified disability support workers, childhood education professionals, allied health professionals or youth workers with National Police Checks, WWCC/Blue Cards and First Aid training. All Carers have specific experience in supporting Autistic young people and are well versed in how to minimise and navigate triggers, as well as supporting young people to navigate anxiety related behavioural and emotional dysregulation. We want the best for our young people and know that you want to know they are in good hands, so we only employ team members with lived- experience of Autism, or real life hands-on experience working with Autistic young people.
Autistic Young Persons’ Program
The Camp Leader and Carer-led program combines group therapy sessions with adventure and art/craft filled activities such as equine assisted therapy, art therapy, aerial adventures on an amazing multi level aerial park, circus skills, canoeing, rock wall climbing, nature craft and wilderness awareness.
Participants will be provided with a personalised social story before their camp, to prepare them for what is ahead. Each day begins with a half-hour visual planning session, and each afternoon ends with parent-led proprioceptive/sensory downtime in our dedicated proprioceptive space which is available for use throughout your stay.
Siblings’ Program
The program is led by our Sibling Leader and activity providers with activities such as rock wall climbing, bodyboarding, circus skills, aerial adventures, canoeing, nature craft and wilderness awareness, and a full day Sibworks program session - led by a childhood education specialist. The program allows siblings to come together, have fun, share experiences and learn ways of dealing positively with the challenges they face as the sibling of an Autistic young person.

Camp Facilities
Offering the best of the Sunshine Coast without the crowds, Autism Camp Sunshine Coast is a stone’s throw from Caloundra in the coastal village of Currumundi. The naturally stylish Noosa, and the awe-inspiring Glass House Mountains are just a short drive away. With glorious sunny days and warm water most of the year, it’s an ideal place for our camps. :)
Less than 90 minutes’ drive from Brisbane City and the Brisbane Domestic and International Airports and approximately 20 minutes’ drive from the Sunshine Coast Airport, Autism Camp Sunshine Coast takes place at the Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre. Located between Currimundi Beach and the mouth of Currimundi Lake just north of Caloundra, the recently redeveloped centre hosts a range of versatile facilities to meet the needs of our families.
Currimundi was named using the local aboriginal name for the area, Garrimundi or Girrimundi, meaning "place of flying foxes". Doubly blessed with a natural lake connected to a long and unspoilt stretch of beautiful surf beach, it is an awesome spot for our camps.
Currimundi lake and beachfront have extensive parks and walkways for the public to enjoy before or after a swim in the surf or the calm waters of the lake. The lake is perfect for canoeing and paddle boarding. Enjoy picnicking, birdwatching and studying nature, taking long bushwalks and admiring the views from the lookout.
Autism Camp Sunshine Coast consists of nine brand new cabins, a shiny new shared self-catering kitchen facility and our proprioceptic/sensory and workshop spaces all within our own dedicated site in ‘Shelly’s’, to the east of the Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre property, complete with PWD accessible on walkways and into cabins.
As well as our Autism Camp Australia program, facilities at the Centre include one indoor court, and three outdoor courts, a floodlit, 25 metres, eight-lane heated swimming pool, lake access and beach access. From adventure challenges and water-based activities to bush outings and recreational fun, there’s plenty to do.
Our two-bedroom cabins sleep up to six people in bunk beds. All have two private bathrooms, bar fridge, dining table and chairs. Bed linen, pillows and one towel per person are provided.
Foodworks Currumundi and the weekly Sunday Arthur Street Country Markets adjoin the site for ease of access to food and fresh produce. There are major supermarkets in Currumundi village, just 10 minutes walk or 5 minutes by car from the site.
Find our top pick for an early morning almond latte at Joe Crow and Stormbird in Shelly Beach.
Or if you’re in need of some hearty breakfast fare, make sure you pay a visit to Beau’s at Kings Beach. Here you’ll find a cool, urban fit-out teamed with relaxed service and food that will really start your day off well. Choose from tasty dishes such as banana pecan granola, the “Good Morning” (a big breakfast containing nitrate-free bacon, smoked salmon, free-range eggs, haloumi, avocado, sourdough and relish), winter butter beans and a Spanish baked omelette. Yum!
